Cleave/How To Make A New One is an exploration of the surface as an encapsulation of history. The stone has an extended sense of geological time. It is taken out of time when its surface is cast in plastic. Using the stone to erode its double, the replica is distorted and flattened. The stone then carries both this action and the remnants of its history with it, to be slowly dispersed as it continues its transformative passage.
